Boston, MA (October 15, 2007) – CampusMBA, the award-winning educational division of the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), today graduated its 1,000th
Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB), the highest professional honor within the real estate finance industry, at a graduation ceremony
held at MBA’s 94th Annual Convention & Expo in Boston. The milestone was marked as CampusMBA awarded 96 industry professionals
with their CMB at this year’s graduation ceremony— bringing the total number of CMBs to (over) 1,000.
“Reaching a landmark of 1,000 CMBs is a major achievement for our industry, said MBA Chairman, Kieran Quinn, CMB. “Given
the intense rigor of the CMB designation process and the commitment needed to achieve it, this is further proof that we as
an industry take professional education and commitment of excellence to a new high— we are setting the bar high for ourselves
and we are tremendously proud of that fact. As a CMB myself, I’m proud to be part of this distinguished and honorable ‘group
of 1,000’ and I congratulate our newest class of CMBs for their extraordinary achievement.”
CMB candidates must amass 150 points earned through a combination of professional experience, secondary education, continuing
education through MBA-sponsored events and CampusMBA courses, as well as participation in MBA at the local, state and/or national
level. After accumulating the required points and passing a comprehensive written exam, candidates must demonstrate industry
knowledge by passing an oral exam conducted by a panel of Certified Mortgage Bankers.
“The CMB program provides a roadmap to professional success- and is different from other programs because candidates must
meet stringent requirements both through professional education and industry involvement,” said John Golden, MBA’s Vice President
of Education. “The CMB demonstrates that this is an industry of career professionals, highly qualified and of the highest
caliber. This is an important message that customers, business partners, regulators and legislators need to know about.”
Designation candidates have the option of choosing among the Commercial CMB, Residential CMB or Master CMB designations. The
Master CMB is a combination of both commercial and residential mortgage banking disciplines, while the Residential CMB and
Commercial CMB focus on their respective subfields of the mortgage industry. In order to be eligible for the CMB designation,
candidates must either work for an MBA member company or be a member of a recognized state MBA.
